Pisa, the Italian Disneyland

First stop on our short stay in Tuscany: Pisa. Like many people we had come to see the tower ... like many people, indeed.

It's lovely Piazza Duomo, Baptistery with its impressive, high cathedral and the famous Leaning Tower, all in the same axis (although the tower has some air to try to escape) and all marble. On the side, the camposanto completes this unique collection of monuments. It's not for nothing that it is called the Square of Miracles, that place. That would just beauty and architectural uniqueness of the various buildings. And it's true that it throws. Simply bad we're thousands trying to take pictures (always the same which is more) trying to straighten this poor tower while specialists are already loaded from the 90s Apart there is so many that there are even some who completely miss their photo, unable to get closer. This is the harsh law of the urban jungle ...

So, with all these people (we even crossed Lamas) and craft markets as a McDonalds, the nerve center of Pisa quickly took false air of Disneyland ... until the price: 18 € per person to climb the tower. Ouch! € 5 for other monuments. There would not abuse that a little? It was like everyone else, an original picture and we had to be content. It was willing to visit the cathedral, the only building where access is free, but there were so many people had to wait 19h (maybe those who pay have entries more quickly) and we could not. Oh well! There was still a little close for a closer look and enjoy the beautiful curtain that prevents you to take a look inside. It really is a beautiful curtain!

100m went back and forth, in the student quarter hopefully get turned less for lunch. We did not have enough back. Well, it was not ignoble, but it confirms that we can do better in Tuscany. In Pisa, especially around the Square of Miracles, unless a miracle indeed, nothing is less certain. No food-tower in Pisa then, but we expected after all. It does not matter, we are happy anyway, never discouraged, we decided to dig a little in the rest of the city.

One criticism is criticism, but promised, we came in peace. Pisa and Love!
If the rest of the city is generally less catchy, we will advise you of even spend a short day if you have time. Stroll along the banks of the Arno is quite nice to discover deeper the whole architecture of the city. Otherwise, we enjoyed the Corso Italia for shopping, Piazza dei Cavalieri including the Palazzo della Carovana or the Borgo stretto with its old arches. Visit level, there will be benefited from the Fondazione Palazzo Blu for a closer look inside a palace. Finally, Cappella di Sant'Agata sympathetic (sounds like Hagrid's house) behind the Chiesa di San Paolo a Ripa d'Arno and the Church of Santa Maria della Spina, isolated on the banks of the Arno, we have moved .

9 questions or statements about the trip I often hear

This must be 6 or 7 years although the travel bug really took me. Since then, when I talk about my travels and my projects, people in front of me react in various ways. Issues or claims often come back. Here are the most common:

1 "You're lucky! "

A classic. As soon as you do something a bit special, this is often what people will say. Especially if that person would actually do it. At least that is what she believes not realizing all that that implies. In fact, using this expression, people do not think it means too much I feel. This is the same as the "hello, are you? ".

But traveling is not a matter of chance, except to be born in a country that allows it. No, it's mostly the motivation, commitment and sacrifice. A question of priorities.

Since I try not to use that term too. Before a person, I will prefer to say "congratulations, you have courage! , "" What motivation! , "Or" well! How did you do? "Etc.

2 "Why do not you go five weeks, it's the same! "

No, it's different. Five weeks is an area of limited time. Admittedly, this is not so bad if you think that many can only take 2 or 3 weeks of vacation in a row.

However, it takes several months to really disconnect from our daily lives and our bearings. It takes some time to be fully immersed in the elsewhere. Only the long voyage permits (or abroad). Alone allows you to feel this total freedom that independent travel.

More frustration of having to go home when you start Verily get it on. And what freedom could stay if you like two days or a week in a place you love! The journey is so happy to be savored slowly. The slow travel is the best!

3 "Why, you're not right there? "

Hmm, what to say to that? Many people think that travel is reduced to a leak, that necessarily, if one hand is that is not good where we are. There are certainly some truth in that. The leak may be more or less present as travelers. She is sometimes starting with a first long trip.

However, it's more complex than that. Curiosity, seeking a greater intensity of life are sufficient engines. Moreover, in many cases, this information is the fact of person who does not have the same experience as you and who therefore can not easily understand. In France, the long journey is not as how he can be in Anglo-Saxon countries. For us, the long journey was something unconventional, so sometimes it's scary.

4 "You're rich! "

Funniest maybe. Sometimes it's a person who drives a new car at 20 000 who said that. Or earns 3 times the minimum wage. The concept of wealth is relative.

5 "And retirement? "

Perhaps you've heard that question. And not just as part of the trip. I refer you to my article about it!

6 "It is dangerous all these countries

Certainly, it is more risky than staying on the couch. After, pushing further, traveling, it becomes clear that this is no more dangerous than to walk alone in some areas of our major cities. In France, too, can be assaulted.

Of course, in some areas, have to be careful, especially in large cities of Latin America or in certain countries. However, I've never felt unsafe. It's affirmation is primarily related to a fear of the unknown and ignorance of reality.

7 "You travel alone, you will not only bored, you do not feel alone? "

When traveling, we will further towards others. And others go more towards us, especially if you are alone. Unless you really seek solitude, it's hard to be alone for a long time while traveling.

8 "It is not real life! This is not reality! "

This statement has always puzzled me. What is reality really? Real life, our reality, that's life as we shape ourselves. The realities of life are unique to each and different. It is nowhere written that must be a just life.

9 "Travel, why? "

Okay, so, personally, at this point, I confess, I lost my motivation for discussion ...

Have you ever heard these statements? Maybe you could add one?

The fear of flying, and how to fight!

Is a lot more than you think rependue. And a real problem for those who love travel! Of course, there are other modes of transport, greener and more. But still, the plane is hardly inevitable for most of us.

I met Roman on the web. The steward of Air France agreed to answer a few questions about the fear of flying: where does it come from, how to manage it, the remedies against the fear of flying etc.

Hello Romain, could you introduce yourself?

Hello, my name is Romain so. I'm 35 and I'm a steward for Air France for 6 years. After 2 years Medium haul (flights France and Europe), I fly about 4 years long haul I rotates on 5 continents.Me here with already a few thousand hours of flight ...

Are there a lot of passengers who are afraid of flying? Have you got a number?

It is estimated that about 60% of passengers are not at ease at a time when another of vol.Cela does not mean that 60% of our customers are terrified of the plane! Between takeoff turbulence and landing, this is the figure that we annoncé.Et are not those who seem more comfortable with the least fear during the flight!

60% of passengers are not comfortable on the plane! Genuine anguish of the aircraft. Anyway! I do not think the figure was too high! Where does this fear of flying anyway?

We are not connected to the ground when flying ... you noticed! Travelling by train, car where same boat we relate to elements that allow us unconsciously to have a role in an accident .

However, in a plane, the passenger does not have the mastery. It is "led" by a technical crew, advised or assisted in case of trouble by a commercial crew, but he endured vol.Tout finally won: departure time, meal time, weather ... Even the most frequent travelers, this can generate a little anxiety.

Fear also comes from the fact that during a severe accident, there are often no survivors.

However, we must put ... An accident in which 100 people lost their lives unfortunately, that's 10 days of fatalities on French roads.
- How the crew he manages them?

First, we distinguish those who arrive for boarding and tell us frankly, "I have a fear of flying!" those who hide their appréhension.Nous particularly appreciate passengers verbalize because they are aware of this anxiety and it is much easier to "treat" .We always take the time to ask what is the exact point that triggers this anxiety: noise, odors, takeoff, turbulence etc ... And we respond to their questions.Pourquoi such noise, why the aircraft is moving, what is the meaning of an advertisement etc ...

We are also supported by pilotes.Lorsque time permits, we try to arrange a meeting during vol.Je can assure you that a passenger who met a pilot is often much less anxious about flying.

For everyone else who does not speak, it is the staff to detect these significant passagers.C'est because one client who has a panic attack can cause fear among hundreds of others. We look at the take-off, cabin, we passed from view, detect attitudes, and again, the mere inclusion of these postures with "how are you? "Is usually enough to reassure the passenger, because he knows he is taken into account.

- It is true that talk to the driver to humanize the flight. And reassurance. Are there has remedies, methods to combat this fear of flying?

There are some do's and don'ts.

Travel must be a time agréable.Il need for it, to be comfortable, so travel with clothes rather large, comfortable. It's not for nothing that we systematically undoes the tie or blouse too tight of a person who is not feeling well.

Normally try to rest before the flight, especially, say since the check, which is a bit anxious about getting on a plane.

To be avoided: alcohol before and during the flight. The effects are magnified and does nothing to calm fears, well contraire.Boire a liter of water for every 5 hours of flight.

Feel free to move about the cabin! This will compensate for the dryness of the air in the cabin and allow the body to rest comfortably. Dehydration contributes greatly to the sense of malaise.Savez sure the humidity in the desert (20%) is higher than the cabin of an airplane (about 8%)?

- Yes, I think I have ever seen booze during the flight to forget! What advice would you give to someone who really would travel to a country so far away, but is hindered by his fear of flying?

If the fear of flying is moderate, simply prepare its voyage.Toutes companies now offer to pick her up when booking (even by a travel agency).

Appropriating HIS flight is a method that works: I choose MY place, I know what type of plane I'm going to borrow, I learn about the flight time on the flyover country. In short, I am ACTOR my vol.Et I talk about my fear of flying when I get on the plane. If you take a company whose staff do not speak French, get help from an English speaking person who will write to you before the trip, you are anxious. The PNC will help you: gestures of comfort and the little touches are recognized and soothing even with the language barrier.

I remember a client who told me his fears during a flight to Bangalore. Anxious, she always took a place near the emergency exits, it was her way of feeling sécurité.Nous have after meal service, toured the aircraft. She discovered the galleys (kitchens), met with the chief and main cabin for a long time we have taken the time to play down the flight talking about ... and foremost transient rien.Cette realized that clearing his mind this obsessive idea, she had spent most of the flight without fear.

If the fear of flying becomes unhealthy, anti-stress courses are organized by companies aériennes.Sur day, the "phobic" is supported by the crew and especially technique: you will make a real simulator session with drivers that will explain how to work a day avion.Cette is really useful since 90% of passengers who have practiced feel the benefits from their first vol.Il is limited, and reserved for great anxiety.

- Any last words?

Speak! Communicate! Personnel board, you only see the business side (and better), is trained to help you have a good vol.J'ai probably forgotten some tips that my colleagues will give you, regardless or the company!

Romain thank you for taking the time to answer my questions! I learned many interesting things about this fear of flying. There are still methods and solutions!

I do not know about you, but personally, I'm always a little apprehensive during takeoff. Sometimes I imagine disaster scenarios ...

And you, are you comfortable with this mode of transportation? While some fear of flying, feel free to share them here!

Are you afraid to go around the world? (or 7 excuses for not doing so)

When I returned from a trip around the world, to those who wanted to do the same, I often asked the question "and you then is when? ". I always had the same answers came back. Or rather the same prétextes.Question fear?

"It's too expensive! "

That is one reason that comes up often. Really too expensive? In some corners of the world, such as Southeast Asia, Eastern and lodging back 10 euros per day. See less.

And I'm not talking about those who travel by bike or on foot around the world, their budget is ridiculous!

Certainly, you must have a bet. But for that, you just save some time in a clever normal job. It's that simple! And then, just travel budget mode. There are many ways and techniques to travel cheaper!

You can also travel and work!

How much do you cost your cigarettes? Or your daily chocolate local Starbucks? Do the math ... over a year.

"And the return journey? "

"It will be hard to return, I'm having trouble reacquaint myself. Maybe I'll be off. Perhaps it is better that I do not do it. I have already spoken with people who have gone a long time, it's hard, they always want to leave. "

What can I say about it? Nothing, stay quietly in your chair in front of your window and watch the world go by ...

"My family will miss me"

Frankly, they are not going to change much. If they are true friends, they will always be there when you return. It will be as if you had left yesterday. Rather, it is you who will have changed in the meantime.

And with the internet, it has never been easier to communicate: the wifi spreads, calls with Skype's free ... Why not make a blog around the world?

sunset Are you afraid to go around the world? (or 7 excuses for not doing so)

"1 year, 2 years, around the world, it's bad for the CV! "

"It will make a hole, I'm having trouble finding a job"! Medium as an excuse. I know around me at least three friends who went to tour the world with at least one year (almost 2 Greg I mentioned on the blog), each found a job after a few months. And then you may be able to opt for the sabbatical!

Personally, when I alternated the long trip over and csd, I never took a long time to find a job. For one of them, this was even an advantage! The person who recruited me was part sabbatical around the world! So she liked my profile! Nice is not it?

Safety and fear of the unknown

It's very human. Man tends to cling to the world he knows as a mold on a rock. What is not part of our environment, what we do not know naturally fear.

How many people are limited because of it? How many people prefer to choose and organized trips or destinations "cushy"? So much!

However, in the early hours in unknown lands, we forget our fears. Of course, in some countries, especially, you really surround yourself carefully. And learn some techniques and made to travel zen. Well, for that you have my method Atipic for safe travel:-)

valley of the Ganges 195 Are you afraid to take a tour of the world? (or 7 excuses for not doing so)

"I'm going to feel alone! "

We bet right? Traveling alone is easy and allows more meetings. You go out to others, and others will more towards you. It's simple.

You can also read tips for solo travelers!

I know this is something that may seem strange for someone who has never traveled alone. Yet it is a reality. Perhaps you'll want to find yourself alone otherwise, this has happened to me!

You are naturally shy? This is a good school to look after you!

In short, after three days, you will forget this fear, that's for sure!

"And my retirement? "

Or pension as I have heard elsewhere. It was recently from a reader question. While she does not even 25! I agree that we ask the question 35, but at that age ... .If it really is a desire in you, do not follow why is it really reasonable?

Clearly not! Time passes. And you can save time, unlike money. Then live your dreams, live them fully!

Generally, one must be aware that there is never ideal time to embark on a long journey or any other project for that matter. These reasons are mainly excuses, excuses to postpone the moment to take the plunge. The problem is that by waiting the perfect time that will never come, you are likely to miss out on your dreams. And have only regrets. Dreams are made so that they become memories! So take action, take the plunge!

I may have forgotten another argument. In another you see? What is the strongest among you? Or what were the excuses that have most hindered before going around the world?

Lascaux cave: a journey into the unique time

I visited there a few Lascaux, "the Sistine Chapel of the parietal" art. A wonder of our heritage. Explanations and a little video to show you why you should go!

Lascaux Cave is located in the Périgord, in the Dordogne. In late June, I went there time for a weekend to discover a part of the Perigord. This region has an important cultural and archaeological heritage. Many castles and prehistoric sites dot the territory.

I know very little south-west of France, except perhaps the Gers. A gap because given what I've seen, the Dordogne and its neighboring departments are not without charm.

The most visited site in the Perigord is without question the Lascaux cave. And because this is one of the largest caves in the world. It is also known as the "Sistine Chapel of parietal art." After visiting, I better understand the nickname.

The discovery of the Lascaux Cave

The Lascaux cave was discovered by pure chance. During a September day in 1940, four children, Marcel Ravidat Jean Clauzel, Maurice and Louis Queyroi Perier walk. They are accompanied by their dog Rabot. This continued a rabbit who takes refuge in a hole. Children go then realize that the hole communicates with a large cavity.

Marcel Ravidat returns a few days later accompanied by others to explore the cave. They discover the paintings. Imagine the amazement and wonder who then had to grab them.

The secret did not stay long one. A tent is set up to keep the cave day and night. Lascaux is registered historic building in December of the same year.

Work is then undertaken to develop a public access. All this will change the thermal conditions of a place in isolation for millennia.

In 1955, the first changes are noted on the paintings. The carbon dioxide causes acidification of visitors of the water vapor attacks the walls. "White disease" appears. A veil of calcite deposits on the paintings, which alters forever.

The Lascaux cave is closed to the public in 1963 Mould appear thereafter.

Here, an overview of weathering paints.

Lascaux I: the original cave

Lascaux is 250 meters long with a vertical drop of 30 meters.

The age of the cave paintings of Lascaux is estimated between 18,000 and 17,000 years, which corresponds to the Solutrean or Magdalenian from the prehistory.

Since the discovery of the Chauvet cave, Lascaux is no longer the oldest cave France. This time, in fact more than 25 000 years.

However, two features make the Lascaux cave one place:

polychrome paintings. These have in fact been made in different colors. Black is not the only color.
the density of paintings and drawings on a surface after all reduced.

There is no consensus on the purpose of the cave. Presumably, the Lascaux cave was a religious monument.

Visit Lascaux II

To preserve this heritage, a fac simile has been reproduced all fields, 200 meters from the entrance of the cave. Artists reproduced with great precision paints.

Lascaux II opened in 1983 This is what tourists visit today. Yes, the "real" cave is closed and it is open only on rare occasions for scientific work or sightseeing prestige (ministers, personality).

Certainly this is not the same magic as visit the original cave. However, this is the only way to get an idea of Lascaux. I can tell you that the visit worth the trip and that emotion is still there. I can not imagine what it must feel like visiting the real cave ...

Only part of the paintings have been represented here. The area of the cave was reproduced in the state with its relief and its imperfections. Visitors believe it almost. Only the concrete floor says "deception."

Add to that a passionate and you will not be disappointed of your visit!

Lascaux II will be replaced by Lascaux IV 2016 This new site will be located at the foot of the hill. The entire cave at Lascaux IV will play!

New York in the snow

New York is the city that has seen hundreds of times on tv, on the internet or in magazines, the one where you dream of going, but you never really know where or when. It was time that New York was turning in our heads, January 23 arrived at the corner and I could not bring myself to not be there on the day of his birthday. Just back from Ireland, I hurried to get my tickets to New York. It was done, I was relieved and happy to know that soon I would discover this city and especially to be there for the big day

It would be his third time in New York, I was keen to make the stay extra special. She was eager to pass my first discovery of the city. Is funny that, how I'm doing? I crossed my fingers for snow, she knew the city in summer, so if the weather could give me a boost, it was first discovered in New York in the snow, imagine Central Park under his coat white, and the tranquility of this light which only attypique if winter holds the secret. Oh yes it would be magical!

Day of departure finally arrived, she in Montreal, I in Lyon. Pressed as a kid on Christmas Eve, everything was perfect. But this trip was truly almost did not. During my night, I receive one of these messages that scare you, a message that said "Big snowstorm in New York. More than 2,000 flights canceled, I was just looking for now yours and mine are still scheduled, all others are canceled. Fingers crossed. "Finally, despite some setbacks thinking that the other had been taken off, we managed to reach New York. This Jan. 22, 2014, I landed for the first time in the USA, and it was done under a thick blanket of snow (although soon the streets and sidewalks are cleared of snow, we were treated to our many flakes New York .). The weather had crippled thousands of passengers, but we managed to cross an ocean and a border. The weather was with me to make even more memorable few days. How magical flying over Coney Island covered in white and sneak into the bend of buildings covered with snow, lying in deep snow in Central Park before warming in a restaurant in Coney Island watching the snow fall in wholesale flakes of the other side of the glass.

When we arrived, we took a taxi to our first New York destination: Brooklyn. We booked an Airbnb apartment in the neighborhood. Everything was perfect when we settled our dispute with the taxi driver and the NYPD (yes no less!). Just out of the car, we are left frozen on the spot, the snow crunches underfoot and whitens the bottom of our pants. We put our suitcases on Cortelyou Road, at this cozy apartment creaking parquet, large windows with the fire escape, the soft sofa, the huge library between the small office flooded sticky topics and lounge and we . We would spend three days here before finishing the living room by a hotel, but shhh, that's the surprise she does not know it yet. For this first day, we especially given the shift, wandered around the neighborhood, took our MetroCards, did some shopping to make our own bagels and it was already time to sleep because tomorrow a big day promised.

This trip was completely free, we had not had time to prepare if not locate one or two places but nothing more. We would sleep late if we wanted to, we will not race monuments. We would end soon in Montreal for good this time, as saying the door next to New York. He was essentially a good time to share wandering wherever we felt no pressure in a town ... deserted. With weather alternating between blue skies and snowflakes, bordering the temperatures -20 ° c ... the dose of magic version of New York in winter, was perfect.

Kelowna, where the senses continues ...

Two hours of sublime lakeside road leads me to Kelowna, my new stage in the Okanagan valley.

A day in Kelowna
Nice lunch break at Brick Salted, run by a new leader ... A feast of fresh tuna tapenade accompanied to drool a Marseillais as well as seasonal vegetables - I tasted asparagus for the fourth time in three days, yay!

Then I leave for two hours ride on the Green Way. Me being lost on the road a few minutes before I ask a person with a sporty if I can follow it. Good idea: nice hike and discover the most successful with the fiftieth anniversary of Toronto assumes surprisingly his choice not to have children ...

In the evening, an excellent restaurant waiting for me: the Summer Hills. Taste, once again, are completely conjugated. The content of the dish is delicious, the view is just as important. My best night at the restaurant since coming to Canada, considering the food, the view and the company! A delight in every sense ...

An unexpected encounter
The rest of the evening is an incredible surprise: I meet a fellow blog, Sandro blog Cat Head, with whom I exchange for years but I had never met! Sandro knew I was in the Okanagan Valley, and therein he himself contacted me for that one last game. What a great idea!
Sandro I was inspired by my trip to Asia Southeast, and it changed the face of my trip to Taiwan with me (virtually) a couple of special friends.
What a night, what a match, what a feeling.
This is the blogger-traveler par excellence. On roads & blogger for 8 years, he never returned to France since! His pictures are to die for and it has a more humble attitude whatsoever. That was my feeling before I met him.
The real meeting took place, and those in which one feels connected in the opening minutes, if not the first few seconds.
A very nice person, consistent with itself, open, humble and really nice in a nutshell. Nice to have met him!

The discovery of Kelowna continues ...
In the sunshine, sitting next to my bed, I listen to the birds singing and the wind stirred the leaves of trees and water of Okanagan Lake. The weather was overcast today for the first time since I travel here. But heaven gives me all the more beautiful colors ...

Kelowna is a curious place. 100,000. Extensive, on Lake Okanagan. Much greener than the south of this region. Orchards, vineyards, hills, lakes, forests, this is what occupies most of the space. And in the middle, a little town. No city really interesting, but (very) many great little places, run by enthusiasts, or offering stunning panoramas.

This morning, I stopped at a bakery ... French! I meet Sandrine, moved here for ten years. His trick? pastry, she learned late in life. In France, she would never have pierced a woman, moreover started late, not possible. Here she has the freedom to express themselves. We discuss a lot of the "leaders" of the region, how they work together, to meet and exchange. It is far from quarrels found by us. And especially here, room for innovation. The country is young, there is no tradition as rich qu'encombrante. Leaders are constantly training, learn from several places and back create innovative cuisine based with local products of excellent quality. Fruits, vegetables, fish, meat or cheese, everything comes from here.
Sandrine so it is baking and I enjoy macaroons. I enjoy those lavender: beautiful transition because then I go for a walk in a field of lavender. The colors are beautiful, wonderful smells ... Roses and lavender, exquisitely blended and complemented other smells of herbs ...

Last stage of this marathon morning flavors, Meadow Vista Honey Farm, where the founder, Judie, as dynamic as charming, makes me rediscover mead. She Vin de Miel, history renamed it to be clear: it is an art to this wine, and mead is not only to beekeepers adventurous ... I am amazed by the flavors that emerge. Wood and probably one too many, the drink of the gods slap me a little about the brain.

Fortunately, it is time to sit at the table. Here I am at the Harvest Golf Club with a beautiful view golf. Incredibly, golf in the heart of an orchard, with Okanagan Lake in funds ...

This afternoon I'm off again for a little ride, this time around in the lake. Sublime colors while it's raining on my right and the sun is shining on my left. A battle cloud prepares to me above the lake.

I then regales an Alaska salmon (the French name of the famous salmon smockeye I hear so much about since my arrival in the region) at Corks restaurant run by a charming mainly Quebec team ...

To go to meet others, he chooses a means of transport that brings: hitchhiking. For 6 years the fighter does not work, spending their dollars at a snail with an average of a dollar a day budget. Yes it's Andrew who has inspired Brugiroux "Beijing Express"!

"My goal was to not pay or hotel or transportation to only spend a dollar a day. I tried hitchhiking but also cargo-stop-stop the yacht and airplane-stop. "

His adventure is worthy of a scenario that would be hard to believe: He will have known headhunters of Borneo, studied yoga in India, given the traffic gems in Sri Lanka, lived with hippies in San Francisco, rubbed shoulders with Buddhist monks in Thailand have experienced the refugee camps in Cambodia ... Among many other extraordinary experiences. 3950425_11-1-199298321_545x341 (Copy)

But among his stories, the greatest modern adventurer also scoured difficulties. He found himself jailed 7 times: "They took me to a revolutionary in Costa Rica, a spy for Israel in Syria and a hijacker in Colombia. At that time, we did not travel as easily today. "For him, his best weapon remained good humor, which allowed him not to give in to fear and go on his way with the sole purpose of learning.

Itself is defined as a student and not a traveler, it's curiosity and love of the people he can not stop from today. Because after learning several languages, traveled 400,000 kilometers stop and saw the 193 countries of the UN, André Brugiroux does not stop there and continues to explore areas such as Polynesia, administered to France but has a own identity.

In total, 235 countries and territories it has visited in 50 years.

André Brugiroux published several books, including "The man who wanted to see every country in the world" that writing urge you to go around the world from home.

In recent years, the phenomenon of medical tourism is to seek treatment in a foreign country at lower cost, has spread globally. From South America to Asia to Central Europe and North Africa, many so-called emerging countries that have embarked on this highly lucrative sector. Some official figures, nearly 3 million tourists, mainly from rich countries, and make every year in these countries to get the care and high-end medical procedures ranging from teeth whitening to cosmetic surgery, passing by a hip replacement, etc. According to some projections, this figure could be around 20 million by 2015.

Countries receiving medical tourists are many and varied, they are not confined to a single continent. The most preferred and sought after in this niche destinations are India, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia for Asia but also Mexico, Costa Rica, Brazil and Argentina in Latin America, and finally South Africa, Tunisia, Morocco and Egypt for Africa. For example, India, which already enjoyed for many years with an excellent reputation for surgery in this area of medical tourism, has become increasingly sought. According to Deloitte, one of the largest audit and advisory firms in the world in 2007-2008, 450,000 foreign parties would benefit Indian health care. Thus, hospitals in this country have seen since 2008, the number of followers of this tourism "new generation" significantly increase, representing an annual growth rate of around 30%. Similarly, Thailand has recorded, in 2006, more than 1.45 million tourists came to seek dental care or benefit from surgery, which allowed the Thai tourism to overcome somehow in the aftermath of the crisis December 2004 tsunami in the Indian Ocean.

Following the success of this, these countries have decided to invest heavily in building, among others, large and sophisticated tech hospitals with many restaurants, shops and services. Thus, Bumrungrad International Hospital, established in 1980 is now considered the largest private hospital in Southeast Asia. Located in the heart of Bangkok, the Thai capital, this multi-specialty institution internationally recognized for its high quality care, is one of those hospitals that offer their international customers many services including a travel agency dedicated to the extension of stays and extension of visas for patients who need a longer than expected or would simply like to continue their stay recovery.

These destination countries are generally selected based on treatments. Thus, Asian countries such as Thailand, India and Malaysia, mainly offer general medical care but also and especially cardiac care and orthopedic surgery. These same services are also offered by South Africa, Cuba, Colombia, Hungary, Lithuania, etc. For cosmetic surgery, many Latin American countries are on the list. This is Colombia, Costa Rica, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Cuba and Mexico. However, among them, some have chosen their specialty dental surgery or ophthalmology. In Asia, countries such as Thailand and India have chosen to specialize in organ transplants, cardiology and open heart surgery. Overall, the most stressed by these international patients specialties are comfort care and cosmetic treatment even if the application of serious diseases such as orthopedics, cardiology or oncology is becoming widespread. Finally, it should be noted that the choice of destinations is also strongly influenced by the language spoken in the country.

Very good performance in benchmark studies and evaluation platforms
Can Luzern despite the difficult for the tourism business past years mainly due to its "natural events" such as meadow compete for a high density of attractions in a small space and the location on the lake with the international competition. Other reasons are above average utilization, a good positioning in the growth markets of Asia and well functioning cooperation with the tourism service partners within the region of Lake Lucerne. Also published in the January 2014 study by the economic research institute BAK Basel shows that Lucerne is successful in international comparison and still performs better than a year ago: New Lucerne is the most successful summer destination and cuts as a year-round destination among Swiss destinations at rank 1, international on the excellent rank 5 from. A good indicator of the popularity and success of a tourism destination are also analyzes the various online review sites: The provider will be assessed directly by guests and therefore stand there next to the image of a destination is not primarily tourism economic factors but also effectively lived experiences of guests in the center. Lucerne has cut off in 2013 on the evaluation platform HolidayCheck successful and together with seven prestigious destinations such as Paris, London, Lisbon or Marrakesc h a "Destination HolidayCheck Award" in 2013 in the category "City Breaks" won. For this s ranking 900'0000 reviews of 1.5 million users for 25,000 destinations are evaluated during 12 months.

The medium-term development of tourism is highly dependent on economic conditions and exchange rate developments that affect the travel behavior of the population in various source markets. Medium term, the experience Lake Lucerne Region but with strengths as a city destination but ideally positioned as Alpine Destination: According BAKBASEL be held a catch-up after a turnaround in 2013 in 2014, which also recover in particular the Euro-markets and to an increase of 2.6% is expected. According BAKBASEL will expire this catching-up process in 2015 and the numbers will evolve towards long-term growth. The Lake Lucerne Region should va thanks to the potential in the Asian growth markets recover very well. For a positive view of the future are also several projects for the expansion of the tourist offer: investment in hotel infrastructure in Andermatt or Bürkenstock and the additional capacity in the conference center (Messe Luzern). The cooperation within the region and to strengthen the brand Lucerne will in the medium term positive impact on the number of overnight stays. In 2014, the tourism LTAG for the Lake Lucerne Region expects growth of 2%.

International tourism demand exceeded expectations in the first half of 2013

The number of international tourist arrivals grew by 5% in the first half of 2013 compared to the same period in 2012 and approach 500 million, according to figures that UNWTO has published. Growth was higher than forecast made at the beginning of the year (between 3 and 4% growth), and stronger than the trend recorded in the long-term prospects of the UNWTO Tourism 2030 (+ 3.8% per year).

Destinations worldwide recorded 494 million overnight stays in the first six months of 2013, according to estimates in the preliminary edition of the UNWTO World Tourism Barometer released on the occasion of the Twentieth General Assembly of the Organization. This represents an increase of 5% or 25 million more tourists than in the same period in 2012 Growth was strongest in emerging destinations (+6%) than in advanced economies (+4%) trend that the sector has now for many years.

"The fact that the growth of international tourism exceeded forecasts provides confirmation that the trips are now part of the habits of a number of increasingly high people in emerging economies as qu'avancées," said Secretary General of UNWTO, Taleb Rifai. "D where the need to give tourism a rightful place among the main pillars of socio-economic development as it contributes largely to economic growth, exports and employment. "

While the economic outlook remains mixed in the world, all regions and sub-regions show positive results, but to varying degrees. Surprisingly, Europe (5%) performed better than expected, driven by the numbers of Central and Eastern Europe (+10%) and Southern and Mediterranean Europe (+6%). The Asia-Pacific region (6%) also exceeded expectations, thanks to strong performances in Southeast Asia (+12%) and South Asia (7%). However, the results were worse than expected in the Americas (2%), South America and the Caribbean being lagged.

The first half usually accounts for some 45% of the total number of arrivals over a year (in the northern hemisphere, the high season is in July and August, which are part of the second half). Growth is expected to continue in the second half of 2013, but the pace will slow down gradually. UNWTO forecasts that 2013 will close with an increase of 4% or slightly higher, that is to say a better than the first estimate given for a particular year.

Asia-Pacific and Europe ahead

Asia Pacific (+6%), growth, supported, was favored by the increase in arrivals in Southeast Asia (+12%), sub-region remains on the exceptional momentum observed in recent years, and in South Asia (+7%).

In Europe, the number of international tourist arrivals grew by 5% despite the continuing economic difficulties. The growth was led by Central and Eastern Europe (+10%) and Southern Europe and Mediterranean (+6%).

The Americas (2%) had a mediocre first half of 2013 compared to the strong growth of previous years. Central America (+4%) did better than the average for the region, while the curve in arrivals remained flat in the Caribbean and South America.

Africa (+4%), the growth trend of recent years continued in the first half of 2013 thanks to the continued recovery in North Africa (+4%) and the strong performance of sub-Saharan destinations (+ 4%).

The Middle East has recovered well after two years of negative growth, with growth in international tourist arrivals estimated at 13%. However, these results should be considered with care, growth appears quite uneven across locations, and because this estimate is based on figures still restricted and which are limited to the period until June period.

Growth in tourism spending driven by emerging saves

Source markets of emerging economies continue to drive growth in emerging economies as destinations qu'avancées.

Among the top ten source markets of the world, China (+31%) and Russia (+22%) led the upward movement of tourist spending in the first half of 2013 Apart from these top ten, Brazil has made its back with a 15% increase, which follows a more moderate year 2012.

However, spending growth in traditional markets has been more modest. Canada (+3%) and France (+2%) led the group, followed by UNite States, Germany and the United Kingdom, which have stagnated, and Japan, Australia and Italy, which recorded negative results.

Tunisian Tourism: Leading Change

No observer of the Tunisian tourism context can deny today will, demonstrated repeatedly in the conduct of institutional change. This commitment must be strengthened by concrete actions and decisions to gradually overcome the impacts of the crisis suffered by the Tunisian tourism in recent years.

For what do we start?
If we are to market a tourist destination, this means ensuring, first, hygiene and cleanliness standards required. A tourist, whatever its origin is sensitive to these factors which are, among other things, the primary source of attractiveness of the destination. Make mobilize common but also organizations concerned with environmental protection (ANPE, APAL ANGED) and implement an ambitious program to address all of these shortcomings is now essential.

On the other hand, transmit to foreign operators and tourists a reassuring message about the political and social stability in our country is also a prerequisite. Tourists do not go to a sanctioned restrictions on travel destination. At this level, the Tunisian diplomacy is invited to take action as soon as possible in order to remove various restrictions posted to our destination (especially those of European countries issuers: France, Switzerland, Germany ...).

A sector strategy is a priority
The implementation of a strategy for the Tunisian tourism is a priority to restructure the sector and drive change. This implementation, which started since last year, it faces several challenges significantly delaying its progress. It is essential to note that advanced by Roland Berger's study recommendations (2009-2010) are very relevant and perfectly applicable in our current context.

We must recognize: Tunisian tourism operation for over 60 years without a clear strategy. This was fatal to the development prospects of the sector and its prosperity. Thus we failed to align the expected growth rate by the WTO which is 4% annually for the countries of North Africa. The absence of such a strategy we inherited an accelerated cycle policies tariff slashing that left serious and lasting effects on the image of the destination and its positioning on the international markets. Furthermore, this contributed greatly to increasing dominance of tour operators to hoteliers face Tunisians and therefore it has deprived us of profit margins in foreign currencies and economies of scale for a significant exposure to the seasonal sector.

Stop the bleeding can not be done outside of a comprehensive strategy developed in consultation with all parties involved in tourism either directly or indirectly (Ministry of Tourism, ONTT, FTH, FTAV, airlines, shipping company, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Higher Education, APAL ...).

The restructuring of the administration: a central component in the management of change
The establishment of new tourism or adoption of new methods and tools for communication or distribution products can not be done under the patronage of an archaic administration divided on the objectives and missions. The relationship "tense", often latent, between ONTT and the Ministry has constituted a real constraint for better governance of the sector. Leading Change begins by gathering all institutional around common goals and define a transparent and fair manner, tasks of each administration. Creating synergies and performance improvements are essential vehicles for intelligent and efficient pilotage service in the industry.

New products for responsible tourism more
Bring to market new tourism products can boost tourism and will also meet several other objectives:

Improved positioning of the destination
Diversification of tourism supply and reduced seasonality
Reducing regional inequalities and poverty
Increased length of stay per person
Improved training effects on other sectors such as handicrafts, etc.
It is essential to note that diversification is not a new concept for Tunisia. It's been over 15 years since we talked about new products (Saharan tourism, sports tourism, ecotourism ...), however, create a new product in a fairly independent manner seaside has been a major obstacle to commercialization. For information, the offer for ecotourism is strongly linked to the traditional hosting infrastructure which left this alone convicted in the distribution network (integrated circuits in packages and not independent trips). This can be made to the very concept of the product. Indeed, existing circuits do not meet the requirements of specialized security facilities TO, labeling and quality of even the attractiveness and ease of access side insurance side.
Unfortunately, such a policy of diversification can not go further. Most experts predict that the tourism of tomorrow will be a sustainable and responsible tourism. Therefore, diversification should be part of this logic. Diversification respectful of the environment, ethics but also greater involvement of local people.

E-Tourism: For a more modern tourism
Tunisians are hyper connected. We have undeniable advantages to benefit from new distribution channels online with a wider geographical coverage, more refined targeting and a more personalized loyalty. Are we talking about the rate of Internet penetration in homes, the development of mobile and tablets. The use of these new ICTs can only be favorable for Tunisian tourism.

Several targets showing relief dominance classic TO, lower commissions and shortening of intermediate circuits, maximization of profits CRM at ridiculous cost or even free in some cases, improving direct sales with better product configuration etc.

Advantage of the potential of social media, search engines or platforms reservation seems obvious. Today, for example, Facebook offers the ability to pay online, what is interesting to the extent that it can target benefit the local market (fan market this social media in particular). On the other hand, several "mobile" applications can be very profitable especially those that offer downloadable city guides, attractions or service providers nearby. The use of technology increased the usability of historical sites via mobile or tablet reality is also a considerable track to promote cultural tourism.

A Business Intelligence to support the change
Once this change is started, it must ensure proper monitoring of changes in the tourism market, the domestic and international environment, the advent of new technologies and especially anticipating crises.

The spell we are experiencing today is nothing but the result of a lack of political crisis management and business intelligence. Creating a standby management is a practice used in most locations, including tourism is an important sector of the economy (Canada, France, Spain ...). This direction may be responsible in part for monitoring developments in the international travel market, the behavior of our competitors and anticipating crises with a view of pre-determined scenarios. Moreover, this management can support the development of new technologies and modernization of the sector (m-tourism, e-tourism and tourism-i).

Clearly, the challenges to build a tourism industry meeting the requirements of professional, institutional and even tourists are enormous. This is largely dependent on the willingness of politicians and officials but also adherence to this vision professionals, at their respective levels, in his own abilities.
